Daria Batkin, Founding Lawyer, Accredited Family Law Mediator, Collaborative Family Lawyer

Daria is an experienced litigator with a broad range of practical knowledge when it comes to resolving conflict. She is an excellent strategist and negotiator. She is knowledgeable, effective and deliberate in her approach.
Daria is fluent in all aspects of in court and out of court dispute resolution and has successfully negotiated hundreds of settlements for her clients. She has appeared at all levels of British Columbia Courts.
Daria is an accredited Family Law Mediator and she is trained in Collaborative Family Law.
Daria is very active in her community and served as Chair of Women Lawyers Forum of B.C. Branch of Canadian Bar Association during 2018-2020. She is wrapping up the role of Past Chair, which she will have held for 2 years.
Daria speaks fluent Russian.
Elnaz Tahanha, Associate Counsel

Elnaz practices exclusively in the area of civil litigation, with specific experience in personal injury, family and employment law. She is an effective advocate and experienced trial lawyer, who has appeared before the British Columbia Supreme Court and Provincial Court. As a dedicated professional, she is devoted to representing her clients' interests to the fullest extent available under the law. She is known for both her tenacity and for her collaborative approach.
Elnaz joined Icon Law Group as Associate Counsel in July 2020. Before joining us, she practiced at a boutique personal injury firm in Richmond, British Columbia.
Elnaz obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia with a major in Political Science and a minor in International Relations before obtaining her LLB from the University of Southampton in England.
Outside of work, Elnaz enjoys attending fitness classes, indulging in Vancouver’s food scene and travelling.
Elnaz speaks fluent Farsi.
Emma O'Dea, Associate Counsel
J.D. (TRU) 2019; B.A. Communications (SFU) 2015
Emma is a dedicated advocate who believes kindness and hard work are essential qualities of any lawyer.
Emma attended Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. While in law school she participated in the Human Rights Law Club, Women in Law Club, and volunteered for Pro Bono Students Canada. Emma knew that she wanted to do client-based work after working as a summer student at the TRU Community Legal Clinic.
Emma began her law career at a reputable personal injury law firm before switching over to family law and child protection law.
Emma has experience appearing before the Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia.
Outside of work, Emma enjoys hiking, trail running, and re-watching Mad Men.
Alina Petraru, Articling Student
Alina was an experienced paralegal with over 10 years combined legal experience in B.C before she competed her NCA certification and commenced her training as an articled student with us. She has a broad range of experience including family law, personal injury law, estate litigation and others.
In addition to daily file management and scheduling of mediations and arbitrations, Alina assists the team with document production and discovery process, drafting pleadings and other court documents, and preparing for hearings, examinations for discovery and trials.
Alina was trained and practiced as a lawyer in Bucharest, Romania, before coming to Canada. Alina's passion for supporting people through difficult times inspired her to return to school to obtain her law degree from UBC.
When not at the office, Alina enjoys reading, writing or exploring the outdoors with her young daughter.
Alina is fluent in Romanian and French.
Kirsten Meers, Paralegal
Kirsten has graduated with a Legal Administrative Assistant diploma and Paralegal Certificate. Since 2013, she has worked in personal injury law, insurance defence and commercial litigation.
Kirsten has experience in several different legal environments and has supported counsel in all areas from discovery through to mediation and trial. Kirsten enjoys working closely with clients to help them get through their difficult times and is always ready for a new challenge.
In her spare time, she enjoys playing soccer, hot yoga, trying out new recipes, travelling and spending time with friends and family.
Aram Govahi, Paralegal
Aram has been in the legal industry since 2007, first as a legal assistant and then as a paralegal. During her career in law she has had the privilege of working with well -respected legal professionals and gained experience in various legal fields.
She is service-oriented and enjoys providing support to both clients and counsel alike.
Outside of law, Aram’s interests include writing short stories, poetry, cooking, hiking and spending time with her family.
Elham Abolhassani, Legal Assistant
Elham is an experienced legal professional with over 3 years of combined professional development and work experience as a legal administrative assistant. After obtaining her Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate in 2019, she focused her career in the area of civil litigation.
Elham is results driven, and she is committed to growing and expanding her knowledge and expertise in the legal field. She aspires to become a Paralegal as her career progresses.
When not in the office, Elham enjoys spending time with family, outdoor adventures and tackling new fitness routines.
Hayleigh Hollingsworth, Legal Assistant
Hayleigh is our newest member to the team! She graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences in Criminology.
Throughout her studies at SFU, she became passionate about the legal field specifically, and achieved a legal certificate to reflect her interests.
Hayleigh is eager to learn and can adapt to many different situations. She hopes to apply the skills she learns as a legal assistant and transfer them towards attending law school and becoming a lawyer in the future.
Outside of the office, Hayleigh loves to be outdoors. She enjoys playing soccer, exploring new hiking trails, and searching for the best coffee in Vancouver!
Kate P., Accounts Department
Kate has been integral in establishing Icon Law. She is an expert when it comes to financial matters.
When not at the office, Kate is an avid tennis and padel player. She enjoys the sun, the beach and a good movie.
